Susannah – or Susie, as she likes to be known – started out her career in journalism (ELLE, Cosmopolitan, Zest) before moving in to a successful career in beauty PR. She spent eight years living and working in London, had a lot of fun, and was exposed to some incredible opportunities along the way. However, excessive stress, pressure and exhaustion became a normality in her life and achieving a work-life balance was near impossible.
That’s where yoga came in. When she discovered yoga in 2012 something seemed to click. After each session she felt better in both body and mind – stronger, healthier, calmer – and over time yoga went from being a gentle hobby to an integral part of her life. In late 2014 Susannah made the decision to quit her job in PR to embark on an exciting new adventure in yoga.
In February 2015 she spent a month in intensive training with the team at Absolute Yoga Academy in Thailand to train in Hot Yoga. Susannah is now a certified Yoga Alliance (US) 200hr teacher who currently teaches in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. Since graduating Susie has conducted further training in both Yin Yoga (under the guidance of Sarah Corbett) and Pregnancy Yoga (Nadia Narain at Triyoga) and has also been part of a mentorship programme with Sophie Free to learn about the art of teaching Vinyasa Flow.
Since then Susie has taught at a number of studios including Sweat Studios, Hot Zen and Absolute Hot Yoga, and has also set up several of her own classes. Susie currently teaches hot yoga, yin yoga, vinyasa flow and pregnancy yoga in the Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire area, predominantly Leighton Buzzard, Milton Keynes and Woburn.
Although personally inspired by traditional Indian yoga influences, Susannah’s primary teaching style takes a more Western approach. Her classes can be a mixture of high energy or calming (dependent on the class) and she believes in teaching with a smile. Her approach to life is all about balance and this is something she encourages in her classes. As well as having a strong focus on postural alignment, Susannah aims to help others achieve their personal health goals whilst encouraging greater understanding of the mind-body connection. Susannah loves yoga for it’s transformational qualities and credits yoga with giving her the confidence to quit her former PR career to embark on this new journey in yoga.
As of 31st May 2016, Susie became a first time mum to Felix. She is currently only running a basic schedule of classes and will gradually add more classes to her timetable across 2017.
